俗语有句话:路遥见马力。这,是真的吗?
When I was young, adults always said that as long as you work hard enough, you will reap your rewards. However, as I get older, it appears to be more of a myth, rather than the truth. It seems always to be the case that superiors (bosses or profs) tend to prefer those who are more outspoken, as they appear to be more intelligent, being able to 滔滔不绝 confidently on the spot. Sometimes, the person do have real substance but there are just times, you realize that the person is just trying to pepper his arguments with a lot of non-substance or, what we always say in SMU, fluff. Whether substance or fluff, it doesn’t really matter if the person always seem to succeed in the end right?
Being a not-a-good-speaker, undeniably at times, I do admire those who have the charisma and can speak well, for I can never speak as well as them. What they do appears to be 事半功倍 and their efforts do get recognized easier. But I don’t think I will change the way I am, for I prefer to work than talk (and I can’t really talk anyway)…
On the other hand, there are just people who are “all talk but no work” and these people do get on my nerves sometimes, as they always get the credit just because they know how to talk better than others and thus appear to do all the work. Some people have told me that what ultimately matters is “实力” and not “嘴力”, but how true is it in the society today, where marketing and packaging dominate? Only time will tell…
