四年又五个月后,我又选择了一条未知的路。
It has been some time (a month to be exact) since my chapter with my previous company has closed. The four & a half years was filled with memories of happiness and “tears”. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to work in an important and visible role within the company, grateful to be able to see the world (Munich, Seoul, Taipei, HK & KL), and, most importantly, grateful to have the opportunity to work with wonderful colleagues.
There was hard work, of course. The first 2.5 years seemed like a honeymoon when I looked back. The keyword for the 2 years thereafter was: OT. Perhaps, I have done myself some injustice. I remembered, last year, someone asked me if I was tired was I have been working virtually non-stop (even on weekends) bar my personal holidays. I think I was, and I began to feel the effect this year, as one is now older and and the fatigue from the past has gradually sunk in. If I were able to go back in time, would I do the same as well? My answer will be the same, for these 2 years were the first time I had the opportunity to provide myself. I guess that is the ambitious side of me. But I may pace myself better given the chance.
What I have learnt most during my 4.5 years is about people. I have met many different kinds of people: nice ones, those with agenda, those who are two-faced. There were people who provided the best memories, but there were also those who provided the most disappointing moments. It is often believed that if you are kind to someone, the person will reciprocate as well. However, this may not always be the case, as a Chinese saying goes 真心换绝情. Sometimes, it is only until the very last minute when someone’s true colours are revealed. It left a bitter taste to my last few days in office, but that’s life – a mixture of sweet and bitterness.
The two months after I tendered have passed with a blink of the eye. I have been on a trip each month (Seoul in Apr and UK in Jun with my parents, HK in May with my colleagues), sit for 2 CIMA papers and experienced the worst headache in my life so far, which lasted around 2 weeks.
It has been a refreshing month since my last day at work. Apart from the 2 fantastic weeks in UK, it was also just the right time for my dosage of the World Cup. It is also a great feeling to finally not be haunted by office emails and list of things to do. My break is coming to an end soon and it’s the beginning of hard work…
