终于,在16个小时的飞行后,我踏上了北美洲的土地。一个我常听到,却没想过真的回去的地方。
From West to East, 7 cities, 2 internal flights, 2 time changes, this Canada trip has been special in many ways.
Winnipeg: The quiet city which gave Winnie the Pooh its name, the capital of Manitoba was one of the main stops as my dad’s university (University of Manitoba) was located here. Visited the university as well as the city centre, utilizing the half-private hotel shuttle. It was the first time I also witnessed sand blown off from the streets, a mini-sandstorm.
Montreal: In the second largest city in Canada, French clearly prevailed. Got an initial shock when everywhere was people speaking French and signboards were all in French. This is also the most “vocal” city, as we witnessed demonstrations on the streets.
Quebec: 一座幽静的小城市,散发着浓浓的法国氛围。到了这里仿佛到了法国,建筑物与石街道都给人一种很法国的感觉。
Ottawa: Capital of Canada, the city gives a solemn feeling. Great European-like architecture is the highlight of this quiet city. French was also spotted along with English on the signboards, showing the importance of French in the country.
Niagara Falls: Undoubtedly one of the major highlights of the trip, the world’s most famous waterfall is really fascinating. Straddle between Canada and the US, the falls, which is also one of the world’s largest falls, is a showcase of how fascinating mother nature can be. We took a boat ride near to the falls, experiencing the power of the falls (and water splashing) first hand and in a short distance. A shower literally. Haha.. Also saw beautiful rainbows along the trip. Niagara Falls, unlike the previous few cities, gives a strong US feeling, with motels, neon lights, and mini theme attractions everywhere, just like those in the movies.
Toronto: This is the city which makes Canada feels alive. It IS really THE financial capital of Canada, with bustling streets, skyscrapers, shopping malls and people everywhere. We even had the chance to live in an apartment on the 38th storey.
Not to forget the 5-day transit in HK, which was practically eating and shopping, 买东西吃东西, all the way. Haha
