礼让，应该是发自内心的，而不是被指定的。

The presence of priority seats on public transport in Singapore has puzzled me for a long time. I have not seen something similar overseas (maybe I didn’t go to enough places…) and do not really understand the need to reserve some seats for those who are in need on the MRT and buses? I always think that people should have the conscience to let their seats should they see someone in need, whether they are on those reserved seats. Do priority seats mean that only people on those seats are supposed to let their seats to those in need, but not the other sitting passengers?

礼让精神 should be done naturally and not being “reminded” to do so. It is a value that should be inculcated from young isn’t it? Even if it is not imparted by parents, then it should be taught in school. Perhaps the presence of priority seats is a sign of the failing of the education system or the waning of moral values in this society.
